Reckling Named 2012 All-America Pitcher by Collegiate Baseball

Matthew Reckling was named an All-America pitcher by Collegiate Baseball, the publication announced from its headquarters in Tucson, Ariz., on Thursday afternoon (May 31).
Reckling emerged as one of the stars on the Owls' talented pitching staff. Collegiate Baseball named the Houston native to its All-America Second Team after posting an 8-2 record on the mound with a 2.90 ERA. Earlier he a was voted the 2012 Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, averaging 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings and holding all opposing hitters to a composite .181 batting average. Not only was Reckling named the conference's Pitcher of the Week a league-leading three times, the right-hander is an outstanding student who was also named to the C-USA All-Academic team for maintaining a 3.45 grade point average in Rice's accelerated curriculum.
The No. 7 ranked Rice baseball team, 40-17 overall and the Conference USA regular season champion, is back in the NCAA Tournament this week as regional play begins at 16 sites across the country in a double-elimination format. The Owls are hosting the opening round of Regionals at home at Reckling Park. Rice is scheduled to meet the Southwestern Athletic Conference champion Prairie View A&M Panthers (28-23) at 6 pm in first round action on Friday, June 1. The Regional's No. 2 seed, Arkansas (39-19) and No. 3 seed, Sam Houston State (38-20) are scheduled to open the Regional at 1 pm that same day.
Single-game tickets for the Regional are now on sale at RiceOwls.com and at the Tudor Fieldhouse box office. Tickets are $16 for all reserved seats, while general admission tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for youth. First-time buyers to the Owls' ticketing system will have to create an account to complete their purchase after selecting their seat locations. Tickets can also be ordered by calling (713) 522-OWLS. All ticket sales will move to the Reckling Park box office on Friday (June 1).
