IRVING, Texas - Rice's starting catcher John Clay Reeves was named to the 2014 C-USA Baseball All-Academic Team the league office announced on Monday, May 19.

In addition to batting a steady .337 with six home runs and 36 RBI for Rice's C-USA regular season champion baseball team, Reeves has also been an outstanding student in his first year with the program. This year the junior transfer originally from Monroe, La., maintained a 3.40 grade point average as a sport management major. He is one of just eleven student-athletes the league recognized Monday for balancing elite play on the field with academic success.

The Rice baseball team next competes in the annual C-USA Tournament to be held in Hattiesburg, Miss., beginning on Wednesday (May 21). Rice, the No. 1 seed, meets No. 8 seed FIU at 12:30 pm at Pete Taylor Park on the Southern Miss campus. The tournament concludes with a one-game championship final on Sunday (May 25).
