Fox Named C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week

IRVING, Tex. - Rice's Blake Fox has been named the Conference USA Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week for May 12-18, the league office announced Sunday (May 18) from its headquarters in Irving, Texas.

Fox remained undefeated on the season by notching his 11th win on the year in his 13th start of 2014. The Houston native fired 8.0 scoreless innings vs. Louisiana Tech on Friday night (May 16). He scattered two singles and three walks, while striking out seven. Fox held a total of 29 batters-faced to a composite .080 batting average. The Bellaire, Texas native is now 17-0 in his collegiate career dating back to his freshman campaign of 2013.

Fox shared the honor with Middle Tennessee's Paul Mittura. The co-Pitcher of the Week Award is the first time for Fox to earn the honor. Zech Lemond was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on March 24. Owls Michael Aquino (May 12), Shane Hoelscher (April 14), Skyler Ewing (Feb. 17) and John Clay Reeves (March 17 and April 21) have all been named the C-USA Hitter of the Week this season.

The Owls next compete in the annual C-USA Tournament to be held in Hattiesburg, Miss., beginning on Wednesday (May 21). Rice, the No. 1 seed, meets No. 8 seed FIU at 12:30 pm at Pete Taylor Park on the Southern Miss campus. The tournament concludes with a one-game championship final on Sunday (May 25).
