IRVING, Texas - Rice senior Michael Ratterree has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, and Southern Miss senior Andrew Pierce has been named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday (April 22) from its headquarters in Irving, Tex.
Ratterree had two hits in all four games last week and led Rice with a .533 average as the Owls went 3-1. Not only did the Houston, Tex., native go 8-for-15 with three home runs and a double for a 1.200 slugging percentage, he drove in a team-best eight runs and scored six times in the four games. Ratterree also drew a walk and had a sacrifice fly while scoring at least one run in each outing. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the annual Silver Glove Trophy Series for the weekend games against crosstown rival Houston.
Pierce threw his second complete game in a row, limiting Memphis to just one run on five hits and two walks, while striking seven. He gave up his only run in the first and did not allow a base runner to get past second base after that. Southern Miss moved into first place in the C-USA standings, one game ahead of Rice.
