HOUSTON -- The Rice baseball program has added one more name to the nine recruits who signed with the Owls in the early period (November 2006), head coach Wayne Graham announced on Thursday. Joseph Paylor, an outfielder from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, brings Rice baseball's incoming class to 10. After enrolling at Rice this fall, the signees will join the team for the 2008 baseball season.
Paylor is a 5-foot-10 outfielder having a sensational senior season for Hillcrest. He has a batting average above .400 with three home runs, 14 RBI and an eye-opening 31 stolen bases. Paylor earned first team all-District 13-4A honors in his sophomore and junior seasons. The versatile prep athlete also participated in football for Hillcrest.
The Rice baseball class is composed of eight from the high school ranks and two from junior college. Seven are from the state of Texas and four are from the greater Houston area. The full signee list is as follows.
