The number of televised games could still increase during the course of the year, including regular season games and in the C-USA Championship to be held May 25-29 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The tournament's championship final (May 29 at 1 pm) is again set for a national television broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The Owls also have three televised games when the team plays at Minute Maid Park later this month. Every game of the Shriner’s Hospital For Children College Classic (Feb. 26-28) is scheduled for a television broadcast, including the MLB Network.
Rice's talented 2016 team is no secret to the TV networks nor in college baseball circles. The Owls return five of the nine starters in the batting order and a host of veteran pitchers from last year's team that went 37-22 and won the C-USA regular season title. The Blue & Gray also have a highly-touted group of incoming freshmen players making their Division I debut this spring. Rice was ranked as high as No. 20 in the nation in the preseason poll released by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.
Under the direction of head coach Wayne Graham, Rice Baseball has won or shared a conference regular season or tournament titles in each of the last 20-straight years. The Owls return a total of 16 lettermen from the 2015 squad that earned a 21st-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Rice Baseball season and single-game tickets for a challenging slate of 31 home games are now on sale. The Owls open the 2016 season at home on Feb. 19 against Pac-12 power Arizona. The talented lineup of teams also visiting Rice this year are Houston, Texas A&M, TCU, Charlotte, Dallas Baptist, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Lamar, Old Dominion, Sam Houston State, Texas State, UAB, UCF and Western Kentucky.
