HOUSTON - Rice Athletics has announced its preliminary lineup of Owl home baseball games that have been selected for a television broadcast for the upcoming 2015 season.
There are two regular season Rice home games tabbed for a television broadcast under the FOX Sports banner. The Owls' March 27 contest against Conference USA foe Southern Miss is now a TV game. The second selection is the May 16 league game vs. Florida International. Note there is a new start time for both games due to the respective broadcasts:
March 27 vs. Southern Miss, new 6 pm start time on Fox Sports 1;
May 16 vs Florida International, new 12 Noon start time on Fox Sports Net;
(all listings are Central Time)
The number of televised games could still increase during the course of the year, including regular season games and in the C-USA Championship to be held May 20-24 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The tournament's championship final (May 24 at 1 pm) is again set for a national television broadcast. The Owls already have four televised away games. All three games at Arizona (Feb. 20-22) are scheduled to air on the Pac-12 Network. The March 3 game at TCU is slated to air on Fox Sports Southwest+.
Rice's talented 2015 team is no secret to the TV networks nor in college baseball circles. The Owls return five of the nine starters in the batting order and a host of veteran pitchers from last year's team that went 42-20 and swept both the C-USA regular season and tournament championships in 2014. The Blue & Gray also have a highly-touted group of incoming freshmen players making their Division I debut this spring.
The Owls open the upcoming season at home against longtime rival Texas with a four-game weekend series at Reckling Park on Feb. 13-15. Season ticket packages to catch all 30 home games are available for as low as $130. Mini-plans, which allow fans to hand-pick their favorite games to attend, are also available for purchase starting as low as $35. More information and about season tickets and mini plans are available at the above link or by calling 713-348-OWLS (6957).
Under the direction of head coach Wayne Graham, who is now in his 24th season at the helm of the program, Rice baseball has made 20-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament and won 19-straight conference championships - including titles that were won in the regular season and/or conference tournament. The Owls have also won at least 40 games a season for each of the last 20 years.
