HOUSTON – The University of Houston baseball team broke a 6-6 tie wide-open with 18 late runs off the Rice bullpen for a 24-6 win over the Owls Tuesday evening at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
By taking the final game of annual crosstown series Houston has won two of the three games between the foes to hold possession of the Silver Glove Trophy for a third-straight-year. Five Owls: Dane Myers, Charlie Warren, Hunter Kopycinski, Ford Proctor and Connor Teykl, were named to the season-long all-series team.
Rice opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Myers led off with a single and hustled to third as Grayson Lewis followed with single to right-center. The third batter of the inning, Hunter Kopycinski, recorded the frame’s third-straight hit for an RBI single and 1-0 Owl lead.

The Owls issued free passes from a hit batter and two more walks to load the stations. Jacob Campbell dropped a flare into shallow left-center to score two that put UH in front, 3-1.
In the fifth Dayne Wunderlich hustled into second on ball that fell between defenders in the outfield. Charlie Warren drew a walk and both runners advanced on Ryan Chandler’s sacrifice bunt. Both scored on Ford Proctor’s line drive into right-center field to make it 3-3.
The Owls had trouble taking care of the baseball in the sixth. Houston batted around for three runs on just two hits. Three walks and two Owl errors helped pave the way to a 6-3 UH lead.
The Blue & Gray chipped away for five hits to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Kopycinski’s second RBI single of the night plated one, and Warren’s single to left drove home two more to tie it back up, 6-6.
