HOUSTON -- The Rice and visiting FAU baseball teams had Sunday's final game of the Conference USA weekend series cancelled due to rain.

The contest will not be made up. Rice closes-out the weekend with a 32-16 overall record and 19-7 mark in Conference USA. FAU is 34-15 on the season and 18-8 against the league.

Rice won the opening game of the series Friday night 9-1. FAU claimed the second game 10-3 when play was finally completed on Sunday morning after weather halted the action on Saturday. Mother nature was the winner of Sunday's series finale, washing out the game with the scored tied 4-4 before 5.0 innings could be completed.

The teams were in fact just three outs away from getting to the NCAA's 5.0 complete innings to have an official game. With no official game there are no stats to be filed with NCAA nor Conference USA.

Rice and FAU did manage to complete Saturday's suspended game before starting the finale. FAU pulled away from a 3-1 lead to claim a 10-3 final. Senior Connor Teykl blasted a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the seventh to cap a 1-for-4 game at the plate. Six different Rice pitchers saw action over the long essentially two-day event.

Rice is next in action on Tuesday (May 17) in the final game of the annual Silver Glove Series vs. crosstown rival Houston. The Owls and Cougars are scheduled to play at 6:36 pm at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. Rice then returns to C-USA league play on Thursday (May 19) with the start of a three-game weekend series at Louisiana Tech.
