HOUSTON - Visiting Texas collected ten hits and took advantage of costly Rice fielding errors to claim a 5-2 win over the Owls' baseball team Tuesday night at Reckling Park.

The Longhorns quickly jumped on the scoreboard for a run after Rice failed to corral a third strike in the top of the first inning. Texas then added an unearned run in the third after an Owl fielding error on a potential double-play grounder.

Down only 2-0, Rice cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth. Connor Teykl drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on Ford Stainback's single through the left side. Teykl scored on Blake Fox' single up the middle to make it 2-1.

Texas came back with three runs in the sixth, all aided by two Rice errors. The Owls first threw the ball away instead catching a Longhorn runner hung-up off of second base. With two away, Blue & Gray then had trouble getting the handle on a routine ground ball. Texas turned the extended life into a new 5-1 advantage.

The Owls answered with a final run in the seventh. Connor Teykl singled to left and advanced to third after a pair of wild pitches. He hustled home on a ground out to the left side that made it 5-2.

Rice is now 21-10 on the season. Texas improved to 23-7 overall.

The Owls next host a three-game weekend series vs. Conference USA foe East Carolina April 4-6. Friday start time with the Pirates is set for 6:30 pm at Reckling Park. The game is slated for a television broadcast on Fox College Sports.
