After retiring the first five batters, TCU starter Russell Smith gave up a Justin Collins home run to left field. Dominic Cox then reached on a two-base error by the second baseman and Bradley Gneitling drove him in with a double down the right field line.
Rice added single runs in the third and sixth innings.
That was enough for Garcia. After walking the third batter of the game, the Deer Park native mowed down the next 16 TCU batters before walking the leadoff hitter in the seventh inning. He then gave up his first hit of the game, a single to Luken Baker. Garcia finished with career-highs of 6.1 innings and seven strikeouts while allowing just two runs on one hit.
Garrett Gayle came on to relieve Garcia and went the final 2.2 innings, striking out five.
The Owls improved to 8-10 while TCU fell to 9-5.
Rice closes out its six-game homestand tomorrow night, Mar. 14, when it hosts Columbia at 6:30 p.m.
