HOUSTON - The Rice baseball team collected a season-high 22 hits in a come-from-behind 12-10 victory over visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday night at Reckling Park in Houston.
Rice had success at the plate and managed to post runs in six of its eight offensive frames, but TAMCC had 14 hits of their own and used two four-run innings to take a 10-9 lead moving into the bottom of the 8th.
Skyler Ewing led off with a single and scored on a triple to center field by Michael Aquino to tie the game, 10-10. John Clay Reeves followed with a single up the middle to give the Owls a lead, and he later scored on a Charlie Warren base hit for a little insurance at 12-10.
Owl right-hander Matt Ditman was brought in for the ninth and ended the hot-hitting Islanders' night with defense's first 1-2-3 inning of the night. Rice improved to 12-6 overall. TAMUCC dropped to 6-12 on the season.
The Owls have concluded their current homestand and are on the road for the next four games. The road swing starts with a three-game Conference USA weekend series at Florida International beginning on Friday, Mar. 14. Start time against the Panthers is slated for 5 pm Central Time.
