Owls Slip Past TCU 1-0 Saturday Night
Fox & Lemond Combine On Six Hit Shutout
March 1, 2014
Fox (3-0) pitched six strong innings allowing five hits and striking out a career high seven batters. Lemond picked up his third save of the season pitching the final three innings.
The defense was phenomenal tonight supporting Fox and Lemond. In the top of the third inning, senior left fielder Michael Aquino threw out a Horned Frog runner at the plate. In the top of the eighth, the first two batter reached for the Horn Frogs and both advanced a base on a sacrifice but by Cody Jones. Dylan Fitzgerald followed with a hard come-backer to the mound, which Lemond alertly threw home to deny the tying run to score.
The Owls' one run was scored in the sixth inning. Charlie Warren reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third after a ground-rule double down the left field line by Keenan Cook. Warren sprinted home on a SAC fly by John Clay Reeves. It was the only margin Fox and Lemond would need on the night.
The Owls (7-4) face Texas Tech Sunday in their last game of the Houston College Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 pm.
