FORT WORTH -- TCU registered ten early runs on the way to a 13-5 win over the visiting Rice baseball team Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth.
The Horned Frogs scored a total of ten runs in the first two innings. TCU, the nation's No. 1 ranked team, plated four runs on six hits in the first, and six more in the second on three hits, two walks and two Rice fielding errors that could have helped end the inning.
Rice had a solo home run by junior newcomer Chace Sarchet to start the top of the third. The Lubbock, Texas, native hit the first pitch over the wall in right for his first round-tripper as an Owl.
TCU loaded the bases and scored on sacrifice fly in the fourth. A solo home run to start the fifth and a final run in the seventh stretched the lead to 13-1.
In the top of the eighth, the Rice loaded the bases on the TCU bullpen. Junior Dane Myers lined an RBI single at third that kept the stations full. Ryan Chandler then blasted a double to right-center to drive the runners home in a 13-5 final.
Rice is now 3-6 on the season. TCU improved to 7-1 overall.
The Owls are scheduled to be back at Reckling Park for a three-game weekend series starting on March 3. Rice hosts west coast power Pepperdine at 6:30 pm on Friday. Saturday's game is set for 2 pm. First pitch Sunday is 1 pm. Eight of Rice's next nine games are at Reckling Park through March 14.
