HOUSTON -- TCU claimed a 10-0 win in seven innings over the Rice baseball team in the final game of Saturday's action at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
In the bottom of the second the Horned Frogs put two men on base, but with two away and the count 1-2 the Owls had a chance to end the inning without any damage. Dane Steinhagen hit a two-RBI double to right for the first runs of the game. TCU rode the momentum for a big five-run frame and followed it up with three more in the third for an 8-0 advantage.
The Horned Frogs added single runs in the fourth and the sixth. Rice had runners at second and third in the fourth and two runners on in the fifth, but TCU held the Blue & Gray in check for a tournament-shortened 10-0 final. The Owls are now 3-4 on the season while TCU is 5-1.
Weekend action in the tournament concludes on Feb. 28. Rice next meets Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday at 6 pm.
