At Rice -- 2012: Recorded a sound and solid debut season of Division I baseball... Went 1-0 with a save while maintaining a 2.52 ERA and holding opponents to a .216 batting average in 35.2 innings of work... Averaged 8.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and built a steady 2.1-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio... Made 15 appearances and tallied the second-most innings on the staff by an Owl freshman... Began as a reliever and allowed just one run on three hits in his first 8.0 collegiate innings, highlighted by 3.0 hitless frames against the University of Texas downtown at Minute Maid Park... The outings impressed coaches enough to earn his way into two consecutive starting assignments... Made first collegiate start on March 14 against an Arizona team that was ranked No. 9 in the nation and went on to win the National Championship... Fired a career-long 5.0 innings against the Wildcats, allowing just two runs on four hits in a no-decision...
