At Rice -- 2014: Made 15 appearances, with 10 in relief and five starts for a total of 53.2 innings... Began the year in his familiar spot in the bullpen as the team "stopper," posting a 1.64 ERA with three saves in 11.0 innings over five appearances... Moved into a starter's role on March 7 when another Owl starting pitcher was sidelined for the remainder of the season, and immediately made a positive impact by going 2-0 in five starts while maintaining a 1.25 ERA in 36.0 innings... Averaged 7.1 innings as a "Friday night" starter (which in college baseball is traditionally reserved for the staff's ace)... As a starter the Houston native held opponents to a composite .197 batting average with 36 strikeouts in the 36 innings... Maintained a 3.3-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio as a starter... In his first start of the season against eventual NCAA Tournament participant Old Dominion (March 7), Lemond recorded 10 strikeouts in 6.2 frames... On March 21 against Florida Atlantic he struck out a career-high 12 in a career-long 8.1 innings... Made final start on April 4 (vs. East Carolina's Trevor Hoffman) and had a no-decision after 6.2 innings where he allowed just one run on four hits... Was sidelined for almost six weeks very soon after that ECU start, and returned to the mound on May 17 with 1.0 innings in relief before a large contingent of pro scouts on-hand at Rice's Reckling Park... Last five appearances of the season were all out of the bullpen - a total of 6.2 innings where he maintained a 1.35 ERA with four strikeouts... Rice's winning pitcher in the Owls' May 30 NCAA Tournament victory over Atlantic 10 champion George Mason University... Also notched wins over Old Dominion, Florida Atlantic, and Texas State... Posted saves over Purdue and current NCAA Super Regional participants Stanford and TCU... For his collegiate career Lemond has tallied a 12-3 record, a 1.91 ERA and a total of 155 strikeouts in 165.0 innings over 62 Rice appearances... 2013: All-America (third team, by both Baseball America magazine and the American Baseball Coaches Association); All-Conference USA (first team, relief pitcher); Dell Morgan Award (as the Rice baseball program's most valuable player)... Finished as the C-USA co-leader, and tied for 14th among the NCAA statistical rankings, with 14 saves... Established the new Rice single-season saves record and eclipsing the Owls' previous mark of 13 that was shared by eventual major leaguers David Aardsma and Tony Cingrani... Posted a 7-2 record, 2.02 ERA and 1.018 WHIP... Ranked 52nd in the NCAA for WHIP and 47th in ERA... Struck out 71 in 75.2 innings and held opponents to a composite .207 batting average... Averaged 8.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and maintained a 3.4-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio... Allowed just 6.66 hits per 9.0 innings to rank 48th among the Division I leaders... Recorded two saves against Stanford, Southern Miss, Tulane and UAB (who all saw him at least twice in a weekend series)... Remaining saves were logged against Hawaii, Memphis, Harvard, Marshall, Texas State and Houston... Led the staff with 31 relief appearances and 69.0 relief innings (the next closest Owl to those numbers out of the bullpen was Blake Fox with 28.2 in 18 games)... Often brought in before the ninth inning, having to earn ten of the 14 saves with more than 1.0 inning of work... Averaged 2.1 innings per relief outing... Pitched at least 3.0 innings in relief seven times, including the Opening Day of the season against nationally-ranked Stanford for first save... Registered a career-long 6.2 frames in the 11-inning championship final of the C-USA Tournament, notching his fifth win of the season after allowing just one run which was unearned... Fired 4.0 innings of no-hit relief a week later in the opening game of the NCAA Tournament to earn sixth win... Answered the call to start for the first time all season, and just the third time in his collegiate career, three days later at No. 6 ranked Oregon in the Regional finale and responded with a career-high tying 6.2 innings... Struck out seven Ducks and walked only one for seventh win as Rice advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time since 2009... Pitched a total of 4.2 innings in two Super Regional appearances... Went 3-1 with a save and had a 3.52 ERA in 23.0 innings from six appearances in the Owls' 10-game postseason run... Conference-only ERA in 30.0 innings from 15 league games was an austere 0.60, and he held all C-USA opponents to a composite .179 batting average... Opponents batted .163 and ERA was 0.76 when pitching at home at Reckling Park... "Night Owl" who went 3-0 with seven saves and a 1.88 ERA in night games... Yes, it's true: appeared in one game as a pinch runner in the second game of the season against nationally-ranked Stanford (but did not get a chance to showcase his speed on the base paths when the Owls were retired just two batters later)... 2012: Recorded a sound and solid debut season of Division I baseball... Went 1-0 with a save while maintaining a 2.52 ERA and holding opponents to a .216 batting average in 35.2 innings of work... Averaged 8.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and built a steady 2.1-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio... Made 15 appearances and tallied the second-most innings on the staff by an Owl freshman... Began as a reliever and allowed just one run on three hits in his first 8.0 collegiate innings, highlighted by 3.0 hitless frames against the University of Texas downtown at Minute Maid Park... The outings impressed coaches enough to earn his way into two consecutive starting assignments... Made first collegiate start on March 14 against an Arizona team that was ranked No. 9 in the nation and went on to win the National Championship... Fired a career-long 5.0 innings against the Wildcats, allowing just two runs on four hits in a no-decision... Returned the following week to start against Lamar and struck out a career-high five batters in 2.2 innings... Moved back to the bullpen where he thrived in middle relief for the remainder of the season... Made nine relief appearances after the March 21 start, maintaining a 1.80 ERA and striking out 18 in 20.0 innings... Pitched 4.0 shutout innings for first career save against Conference USA foe UAB... Threw 4.0 innings against crosstown foe Houston in the regular season, then pitched another 4.2 relief frames against the Cougars in the opening game of the C-USA Tournament... Played locally for the Houston Wildcats over the summer.
