At Rice -- 2012: Most Outstanding Player, Houston College Classic ; Caught the coaches' attention in the fall practices (2011) and earned the No. 3 starting spot in the opening series of the season... Went on to pitch in 14 games in debut season of Division I baseball... Finished fourth on the team with eight starts... Was seventh on the staff in strikeouts (40)... Averaged 9.2 strikeouts per 9.0 innings... Held opposing hitters to a composite .277 batting average, tied for the sixth-best mark on the team... ERA in first 25.1 collegiate innings was a sterling 1.07... Fired 18-consecutive scoreless innings during one early stretch that included two of his best outings of the year...
