Wayne Graham said -- "D.G.L.'s a team-player with speed who helps us in any of the outfield positions, as a pinch-runner or hitter."
Rice -- All-Silver Glove Series team for the season-long best-of-five games vs. crosstown rival Houston; Played in 41 games with 13 starts to tie a career-high... Started 12 games in the outfield (eight in center, three in right and once in left)... Made one start at third base (vs. Kentucky at Minute Maid Park)... Batted leadoff seven times, the second-most for an Owl in the top spot in the order... Played as a defensive substitute in the outfield 16 times... Appeared in 15 games as a pinch-runner... Entered a game as a pinch-hitter five times... Ended up having six pinch-hit at bats in five games as a pinch-hitter due to the Owls sending 14 men to the plate in an eight-run inning (against Arizona)... Maintained an .833 on-base percentage as a pinch-hitter by going 1-for-2 with three walks and getting hit by a pitch... Finished seventh on the team in on-base percentage (.370)... Managed to reach base when leading-off an inning 8-of-17 times (.471)... Batted .286 in day games... Hit .267 in all games played away from friendly Reckling Park... Went 4-for-8 with a double, four RBI, two runs scored and two walks to earn selection to the all-series team against Houston... Collected a season-high two hits in a game three different times... Drew a career-high three walks in a start against Louisiana Tech... Tallied a career-high seven at bats in the extra-inning game at AT&T Park against eventual College World Series participant California, tying for the most official at bats by an Owl all season... Made a career-high five put outs that night against the Golden Bears... Registered first-ever defensive assist from the outfield, but it probably saved the game in a narrow 2-1 road win at Louisiana as he threw-out a Ragin' Cajun runner trying to stretch a leadoff single into a double in the bottom of the eighth inning... 2010: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Played in 23 games with one start as the designated hitter (at home against Dallas Baptist)... Led the team with 22 games played as a sub, including 14 as a pinch-runner, five as pinch-hitter, two as a defensive replacement in the outfield and once as the new DH... Came off the bench to bat for eventual major league draft pick Chad Mozingo against crosstown foe Texas Southern and drove a pinch-hit double down the left field line and later scored... Scored 10 times, nine of which were in games he entered as a pinch-runner... Pinch-ran at Houston in the Silver Glove Series and stole a base in his only attempt... Drew a walk and was twice hit by a pitch for a .333 on-base average... 2009: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Played in 21 games with 13 starts as a freshman... Made four starts in right field and nine as the designated hitter... Posted the second-highest batting average on the team (.360) behind Anthony Rendon... Had the highest average (.472) among the ten different Owls who batted as the designated hitter... Began his Rice career hitting safely in each of his first six games at the Division I level... Shared the team lead for hits in a single game (4), and reached that career-high twice (vs. Tulane and Sam Houston State)... Only one other Owl had more four-hit games (Jimmy Comerota, 3)... Batted .455 (5-for-11) with a sacrifice bunt against elite teams that went on to play NCAA Tournament... Hit .436 (17-for-39) with a .590 slugging percentage in home games at Reckling Park... Played summer ball for the Riverhead Tomcats in the Atlantic Collegiate League.
