Anthony Fazio is serving in his first season as a student coach.

Rice -- 2011: Did not appear in any games while returning to full health... Played locally in the Karl Young League over the summer... 2010: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Pitched in 11 games with four starting assignments... Held all opposing hitters to a combined .250 batting average... Tied for fourth on the team with four games-finished... Made NCAA debut in relief in the opening series of the season against nationally-ranked Stanford and earned the start for the home-opener the following week against eventual NCAA Tournament participant Lamar... Finished the year with 4.00 ERA in 18.0 innings, but the numbers were greatly influenced by his first two outings of the season (the first two his collegiate career)... After five earned runs in 0.1 innings of his first two outings, he maintained a steady 1.53 ERA and a .206 opponents' average over his next 17.2 frames... Started games against No. 9 Texas on the road in Austin, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi... Scattered three singles and struck out a career-high four while pitching a career-long 5.2 innings against Sam Houston State for first career win... Pitched 4.0 innings in a start vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi... Error-free in four defensive chances from the mound... Pitched in 11 games, but played in 12 overall... Showed some versatile athleticism by entering the Texas Southern game as a pinch-runner at first base (for eventual major league draft pick Diego Seastrunk)... 2009: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Sat out the entire year with an injury suffered just a few days prior to the start of the season... Completed a redshirt year... Worked hard to come back and pitch in the fall.

High School -- A 2008 graduate of Monsignor Kelly High School in Beaumont... Four-year varsity letterman who was a three-time all-district and all-state honoree in baseball by the Texas Association of Parochial & Private Schools (TAPPS)... Led the team to a 16-10 record and the TAPPS 6A state finals... Named the MVP of the Area Code Games as senior... Coached in baseball by Al Rabb... Versatile athlete who was also a two-time all-state and all-district quarterback under coach Mike Long... Named the Bulldogs' offensive MVP as a junior... Outstanding student who graduated magna cum laude... Member of the National Honor Society.
