At Rice -- 2012: Played in nine games with two starts as the designated hitter in first season at the Division I level... Made his Rice debut as a replacement DH on the second day of the season against an FIU team that was coming off an NCAA Regional appearance... First collegiate start was against Arizona (ranked No. 9 at the time but went on to win the National Championship)... Singled in his first at bat against the Wildcats (his second career at bat overall) and stole second base later in that inning... Also started on the road at Conference USA foe Memphis... Subbed-in to play first base for the first time the following week at Lamar... Late in the year he delivered a lead-off pinch hit in the bottom of the tenth inning in the second game of the C-USA series against crosstown rival Houston (where he was lifted for a pinch-runner, who went on to score the game-tying run on the way to a 4-3 Rice victory in extra frames)... Went 1-for-4 as a pinch hitter and 1-for-7 as the DH... Played in the Northwoods League over the summer, where he helped lead the Wisconsin Woodchucks to a 26-9 record and South Division title.

Three-year varsity starter and all-district honoree for head coach David Nix, the 4-5A coach of the year in 2011... Helped lead the Colts to the district championship as a senior and to the Region I quarterfinals of the state tournament... Batted .443 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI in the team's 40 games in 2011... Went 7-3 on the mound with a 3.26 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 67 innings of work... Maintained a .450 batting average during prep career with 31 homers... Outstanding student...
