When the Owls had an opportunity to add a student assistant coach to the staff, they simply started at the very top of the school's record book. Austin Davis will serve as the team's student coach for the 2005 season after the conclusion of his stunning playing career in 2004.

Who could be better and more respected than Davis, the program's career record holder for hits (241), doubles (65), at bats (924) and games played (309)? In addition to helping the Owls win the 2003 national championship, the Houston native and graduate of Spring Branch Memorial High School paced the team to four consecutive Western Athletic Conference championships and two trips to the College World Series.

Davis was named all-NCAA Regional two times, all-WAC three times, freshman all-America, WAC freshman of the year, academic all-WAC and to the all-Silver Glove team a total of three times. He concluded his playing career with a .334 lifetime batting average, 26 career home runs and 160 RBI.

Davis is working to complete his degree in managerial studies/sports management. He is a member of Will Rice College.
