At Rice --
2017: All-Conference USA
(util., second team); C-USA All-Tournament Team; Versatile contributor who shared the team lead in hits (88), home runs (8), triples (5), total bases (134), steals (13), steal attempts (16), sacrifice bunts (5), and multi-hit games (29), while also finishing second on the squad in batting average (.358), at bats (246) and slugging percentage (.545)… As a right-handed pitcher he was second on the Owl staff in ERA (3.98), third in opponents’ batting average (.244) and the team-leader in pick-offs (4)… At the plate or on the mound, he was fifth on the team with 62 games started, including 45 at third base, nine at first base, seven as both the starting pitcher and designated hitter, and one time as exclusively the DH… Hit third in the order 49 times, the second-most of any Owl at any one spot all season long… Stepped-up with a .412 average in C-USA league games… Batted .368 with two outs already recorded in the inning, .386 with runners on base, and a team-leading .408 when runners were in scoring position… Helped carry the offense as the squad’s leading hitter the first half of the season (.348 avg., .419 OB%, .470 SLG%), then elevated his offensive production (.366 avg., .432 OB%, .611 SLG%) in the second half… Ended 2017 with a season-long 13-game hitting streak, the second-best by an Owl all year... Reached base safely in 17-consecutive games during one stretch… Registered three hits in a game six different times… Tallied eight games with two or more RBI… Drove-in a career-high four runs three different times, including once in the C-USA Tournament and once in the NCAA Regional… Logged a team-best nine RBI in the Owls’ eight postseason games… Twice scored a season-high three runs, at UAB and vs. Florida Atlantic… Started 12 double plays from the hot corner… Tied a career high with six defensive assists against C-USA foe Florida International… Finished eighth on the pitching staff with 16 appearances and was sixth with 54.1 innings… Compiled 34.0 innings in seven starts and 20.1 frames in nine relief outings… Averaged 6.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings… Started on the mound on Opening Day at No. 19 ranked Texas, and recorded 6.0 innings allowing just two runs on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a no decision… Pitched a career-long 6.1 innings on the road at FAU, allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out four… Struck out a season-high five batters three times (vs. Houston, Pepperdine and at Old Dominion)… Primarily served as a starter in the first half of the season, then moved to the bullpen for the majority of the second half… A closer look at his seven starts is in order, however, as his teammates on offense supported him with an austere .244 batting average and 3.9 runs per game… Earned only save of the season in his final pitching appearance, 3.2 gritty innings in the NCAA Regional’s elimination game against Southeastern Louisiana… 2016: Big contributor at the plate and as a right-handed pitcher... Appeared in 56 games of the team's 62 games with 53 starts... Started the first 52 games at third base, then pitched out of the bullpen three times in the postseason before making his first career start on the mound in an NCAA Regional against No. 5 ranked LSU at a rowdy Alex Box Stadium... Worked 4.1 innings against LSU in a no-decision, but held the Tigers in check just enough for Rice to post a 10-6 victory and force the winner-take-all Tuesday final... Each of his first 15 pitching appearances were in relief, including 12 outings where he initially started that game at third base... Was second on the staff in saves (7) and games-finished (13)... Averaged more than 1.2 innings per relief outing, but posted a career-long 4.2 innings with a season-high tying four strikeouts while earning a save in the Conference USA tournament against Louisiana Tech... Also posted four strikeouts in 2.1 hitless innings against Sam Houston State for the second save of his collegiate career... Notched first career save in 3.0 scoreless frames at Houston... Registered first career win in first pitching outing of the year, the finale of the season-opening series against eventual College World Series runner-up Arizona... Versatile athlete added almost 100 points to his batting average as a freshman to settle in as the regular third baseman (after two other players shared the spot in 2015)... Batted .264 for the season with the steadiest of splits: .260 in the first half and .268 in the second half, as well as .267 in day games and .260 in night games... Longest hitting streak was five games, but finished the season hitting safely in four-straight... Stepped-up to hit .300 when runners were in scoring position and reached base at a .413 clip (19-for-46) when leading off an inning... Collected two or more hits in a game 14 times, including a career-best three hits against C-USA foes Charlotte and Louisiana Tech... Two-hit game against Arizona featured two triples, becoming the first Owl to have two triples in a game since eventual major leaguer Josh Rodriguez vs. Miami-Ohio in 2004... Went on to lead the team, and share the C-USA lead, with four triples... Finished with the same number of triples as doubles... Stole seven bases to share the team lead (with Ryan Chandler)... Tied for third on the team in walks (25) and was fifth in both on-base percentage (.358) and runs scored (31)... Scored two or more runs in a game ten times, including a career-high three runs in the series finale at FIU... Knocked two home runs, both solo shots at home against C-USA foes Old Dominion and Charlotte... A closer look at 38 strikeouts is in order because 14 of the Ks (40 percent) were in the first eight games of the season before March 1... Biggest and best outing of the year was one only a handful of Americans saw, but would have made the entire nation proud, scattering two singles and two walks with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings in a start against the older and professional Cuban League team Artemisa... Retired seven of the first eight batters he faced, but picked that initial runner off first base which seemed to spark Rice on offensive side in the top of the very next inning... He helped his own cause by lining a one-out single into centerfield and moving up to scoring position when the outfielder threw out the lead runner at third base... Scored from second on Ford Proctor's RBI single into left to give los Buhos (the Owls) the first run (and as it turned out only run the team would need) that day in Cuba... Went on to play first base for the final three innings, finishing his day at the plate with two hits, a run scored and a walk... After the game many of the Artemisa players wanted to get their photo taken with Myers, who they were certain was a visiting American star... 2015: Appeared in a total of 21 games as a true freshman, both as a position player (13 games) and right-handed pitcher (8 games)... Worked his way into five starting assignments, including two at third base, two as the designated hitter and once on the mound... Entered a game as a pinch hitter seven times, replaced the designated hitter once, and made one appearance as a defensive substitute in right field... Role evolved from contributing as a position player/hitter in the first half of the season (12 games) to more work as a pitcher in the second half (5 of his 7 relief appearances)... Was the first right-handed pinch hitter used on opening day, and then remained in the game to play third base against the No. 6 ranked Longhorns... Started in right field the next day in the second game of the double-header, where he collected his first base hit to lead off the bottom of the third and then scored... Came off the bench to drive in a pair of runs and score a week later against Stephen F. Austin... Punched a pinch hit single in the bottom of the eighth inning against Conference USA foe Southern Miss... Made his mound debut on March 20 in the C-USA opener at OId Dominion and recorded a strikeout in 1.0 inning of work... Earned a midweek start four days later at home against Sam Houston State and was solid in holding the Bearkats to no runs on just one hit while striking out eight in a career-long 4.1 innings... Returned to the bullpen and made five more appearances against C-USA foes before his final outing on the last day of the year in the NCAA Tournament... Finished fourth on the staff with a 2.45 ERA... Held a total of 38 hitters faced to a composite .158 batting average, the second-best mark on the team... Averaged 11.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings of work... Was announced as a pinch hitter in the opening game of the C-USA series at Charlotte, then almost immediately subbed right back out for another pinch hitter (Blake Fox) when the 49ers then changed pitchers.
