Rice head coach Wayne Graham promoted former Owl squad member Trey Crain to student assistant coach just prior to the start of the 2010 semester. Coach Crain is expected to have a wide-range of responsibilities for assisting the coaches prepare 2010 Owls squad.

Crain was on the Rice players roster in 2007 and 2009. He played the 2008 season at Weatherford College in north Texas. At Weatherford he provided steady offensive production to help the team to a 36-17 record. Crain batted .308 in 50 games played with 37 RBI, 37 runs scored, nine doubles a triple and three home runs. He was a teammate of current Owl Steven Sultzbaugh under coach Jeff Lightfoot.

High School -- A 2006 graduate of W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi... Three-year starter and four-year letterman... Helped lead the Texans to the co-district championship in 2006... Coached by Mario Deleon... Two-time first team all-district and three-year first team all-metro... Made first team all-South Texas and third team all state junior year... Senior year made first team all-south Texas and first team all-state... Named district MVP in 2006... Hit .430 senior year with four home runs and 46 RBIs... Three-year letterman and starter for football team under coach Roland Gonzalez... Made all-district, all-metro and all-south Texas in 2004... Nominated as all-district, all-metro and all-South Texas MVP in 2005... Member of first team all-state in 2005... Broke South Texas receiving record with 86 catches and 1200 total yards... Member of National Honor Society.
