Rice Returns Home To Reckling Park Starting on Friday

At Rice --
2016: Played in 24 games with 14 starts in first season at the Division I level... Made eight starts as the designated hitter, five in left field, and one in right field... Batted as high as second in the order three different times... Finished third on the team in games played as a substitute (ten times)... Shared the team lead (with Kendal Jefferies) in making five appearances as a pinch-runner... Rice debut was as a defensive sub in left field in the opening series of the season against an Arizona squad that went on to reach the championship final of the College World Series... Made first collegiate start the following week against No. 13 ranked TCU downtown at Minute Maid Park, where he was one of five Owls to get a base hit... Earned a follow-up start the next day against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, where he went 1-for-3, double, RBI and walk at the Astros' home venue... Curiously hit more than 150 points higher in games played away from Reckling Park... Scored runs in back-to-back games at Sam Houston State and against UCF... Registered a sacrifice bunt in a Conference USA win over Old Dominion... Yes, it's true: there were two occasions (March 6 and April 29) where he was listed as a starter in the batting order, but was lifted for a pinch-hitter when the opposing teams changed pitchers before he had a chance to step in the batter's box... Played in the Texas Collegiate League (The Woodlands) over the summer.

High School -- A 2015 graduate of College Station High School... Selected in the 38th round of the 2015 Major League Draft by the Chicago White Sox... Three-year varsity baseball letterman for head coach Scott Holder... Helped lead the Cougars to a 25-7-1 record as a senior, and to the 3A state title in 2014... Three-time participant in the Area Code Games... Maintained a 3.8 grade point average.
