Signing Day 2018

Rice head football coach Mike Bloomgren signed a total of 18 players from eight states in addition to Texas during the spring signing perdio who will join with the six players who signed during the early recruiting period in December.

In addition to 16 players from the Texas, the Owls signed one high school player each from California, Florida, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, New York and South Carolina, the most since the Owls signed players from six states in 2003. The Owls also added their first graduate transfer since 2014 in quarterback Shawn Stankavage from Vanderbilt who played his high school football in North Carolina.

"We wanted to set a tone with this class, where we want to maintain a strong presence within Texas while also extending our efforts throughout the country," Bloomgren said. "Thanks to some great work by our staff, we were able to identify some talented players who were excited by the opportunity to join us at Rice. This group is not only talented, but they have great passion for the game and come from successful programs. That is what will define this program, talented players who have a passion for football and are dedicated to seeing Rice become a consistent winner."
