Jerry Lewis is in his third year as associate athletic director for finance, responsible for managing the athletic department's finances. He joined the Rice athletic family in August, 2002, after spending four years as the Assistant Controller, Disbursements for Rice University.
Lewis is no stranger to Houston or the Rice community. He spent 1987-1999 as the Director of Internal Audit for Rice University before moving to the Assistant Controller position. Prior to that, he was Controller of Oilfield Services Company manufacturing plants for Weatherford International.
Lewis has been a certified public accountant in the state of Texas since 1981. His work career began in 1962 with US Rubber Company where he was an internal auditor and controller. The company later changed its name to UNIROYAL.
A 1962 graduate of Bryant College in Providence, Rhode Island, Lewis earned a bachelor of business administration in accounting and finance. He and his wife, Mary Anita, have five children: Gerald R. Jr., a graduate of the University of Texas; Suellen, a graduate of the University of Houston; Andrew, a graduate of Texas A&M University; Jennifer, a graduate of Texas Tech; and William, a fifth year student at University of Texas. The couple also has five grandchildren.
