Associate A.D./Facilities and Events


Ryan Bucher came to Rice in March of 2012 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Management and was promoted to Associate AD in July of 2014.

In this role, Bucher is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all athletic facilities, as well as being involved with all construction and improvement projects. He also oversees all aspects of game day operations for all 16 varsity sports for the Owls. This includes coordinating teams, officials, athletic department staff, event staff, security and fire rescue. He is also responsible for soliciting, calculating, and submitting bids for Conference USA and NCAA Championships and serving as Tournament Manager for these events. Another role that Bucher oversees at Rice is the rental of athletic facilities to outside entities such as schools, concerts and private groups for events ranging from football games to meetings. Bucher is a member of the department's senior staff and serves as the sports administrator for men's golf.

Prior to coming to Rice, Bucher was at the University of Miami Athletics Department, where he served as the Director of Events and prior to that the Assistant Director of Events. In that capacity he oversaw the event management for all 17 varsity sports for the Hurricanes, directly coordinating the game-day operations for all football, track & field, and golf events. He was also responsible for soliciting, calculating, and submitting bids for Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and NCAA Championships, including the scheduling of the facilities and all aspects of event management and serving as Tournament Manger for these events.

A 2004 graduate of San Diego State University, Ryan earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and added a master's degree in education from the University of Miami in 2009.

Ryan and his wife, April, have two young sons, Caleb & Elijah and live in Richmond, TX.
