With power out through much of the Houston area in the wake of Hurricane Ike, Rice coaches and student-athletes began playing host to a couple afternoons of camps for the children of Rice faculty and staff who don't have day care currently available.

On Thursday, campers spent time at the Rice track and tennis courts before capping their day with golf lessons on the university's intramural fields.

The campers have another day of activities planned for Friday, culminating with attending the Owls' soccer match against McNeese State. Kickoff for the match is set for 4 p.m. at the Rice Track and Soccer Stadium.

"We're extremely happy that the athletics department and recreation center could team up to help the Rice family as we all attempt to recover from Hurricane Ike," said Rice director of athletics Chris Del Conte.
