A total of 24 Rice Owls are among 334 student-athletes have earned the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal during the 2007-08 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Wednesday.
Leading the way for the Owls was senior distance runners Brett Olson and Jessica Cox, who were each honored for the third consecutive year.
The medals are given to those C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.
Nine others were honored for the second consecutive academic year: Michael Buttacavoli (golf), Traci Fraser (soccer), Katelyn Ostendorf (soccer), Erin Scott (soccer), Jon Greenberg (men's tennis), Marissa Daniels (women's cross country and track and field), Lennie Waite (women's cross country and track and field) and Jessie Boulavsky (volleyball).
The conference also recognized 172 Rice student athletes as members of the Commissioners Honor Roll for the 2007-08 academic year after the posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
