HOUSTON, Texas - Rice's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will co-host the "Pitches for Pints" Blood Drive in conjunction with Houston Methodist on Tuesday, April 1 from 3-7 p.m. in Fox Gym on the Rice campus near the entrance to Reckling Park.
The timing and location of the event allow fans to stop in and donate blood before attending that evening's baseball game against Texas, set for 6:30 p.m.
Track and field sophomore Cali Roper is the SAAC representative for the event. She said the goal is to top the number of donors from last year's event and the organizers expect a large walk-up crowd for the event.
Eligible blood donors will receive a t-shirt and the event is part of the "Be the Match" initiative for tissue typing for the Marrow Registry.
Walk-up donors are always welcome, but participants may also schedule an appointment by calling 281-205-8737.
